"If you knew conclusively that you were destroying your children's future, would you alter your lifestyle to save it?"
Did you ever stop to wonder what our planet would be like without rainforests?
The answer isn't pretty.
The purpose of this site is to to share some information about forests and deforestation, and to ask for your support with a mission I am taking very soon.
I'm David Johnston
I currently live in London, work as a Marketing Exec and volunteer at the London Zoo. I love the natural world and I've spent the past few years working with an awesome bunch of mates to raise money and awareness for eco-charities through our small event promotion we call loveDJ.
After years of research and more media attention than ever before, I feel the results of our consumeristic and throw-away lifestyles are screaming at us to change.
The most important time to help protect our planet is now!
The plan
On 26th April 2009, I'm heading off to the Amazon rainforest for around six months (initially) to help with conservation efforts there first hand.
I'll be based at the charity-funded Los Amigos biological research station for three months, followed by a placement with the charity-funded ecotourism research and wildlife monitoring project, Fauna Forever Tambopata.
I'll become the general dogs body for both charities and muck in with all their conservation works, and equally as important I'll document and publish online all the work we're doing for everyone to see. 'The proof is in the pudding' and I plan to show exactly what these charities (and I) are doing with donations!
Talking of donations... my goal is to raise GBP5,000 - 3,300 for the charity placement fees and 1,700 for flights and expenses.
I will of course pay for all expenses myself, but I cannot afford the full placement donation fees so I'm asking for your help to join me in saving our biggest source of breathable air, and home to the largest concentration of animal and plant life in the world. Read more about the Amazon here
Your help
I need donations towards my charity placement fees. The donations can be made (with trust) into my bank account below, which I will add together and donate in one lump sum, or by emailing me if you would like to arrange a direct donation to either charity.
